The ABCs of Self-Care and Self-Love
Jun 20, 2025
Self-care is a way to reclaim your energy, nurture your soul, and bring balance back into your life.
It is more than a checklist.
It is an intimate vow.
Every breath, every boundary, every bubble bath, every brave conversation whispers the same promise: “I will take exquisite care of the only home I truly have, the home within myself.”
When I say healing, I mean real, marrow-deep healing. The kind of healing that begins within.
It took me years to realise that no one could do the work for me. Healing is never a solitary affair.
Hands reach out. Hearts open. Mentors appear.
The alchemy only lasts when the spark is lit inside.
Self-care isn’t just about occasional bubble baths or spa days (although those can be lovely!). True self-care is a deep, intentional practice of tuning into yourself, listening to your needs, and meeting those needs with compassion and dedication.
Most of us believe we need to become bigger, better, shinier versions of ourselves before we are allowed to heal.
Healing is the art of returning. The art of touching the innate love, passion, creative power and purpose already pulsing beneath the surface.
That doesn’t mean others can’t help or support you, especially in the moments you bravely ask for it.
The ‘switch’ must happen within you for the transformation to genuinely stay.
That switch is called self-responsibility.
Self-responsibility can feel daunting…but it is also wildly liberating because you hold the key to your own freedom.
In a world that moves fast and forgets to pause, what if you had a simple, soulful guide to help you remember?
That is where the ABCs of self-care come in.
From Anchoring into the present moment to Zoning out for a zen mindset, these practices are gentle reminders that your body, mind, heart and soul all deserve daily devotion.
This isn’t just a list.
It’s a ritual.
A love letter.
A sacred return.
Let the ABCs of self-care invite you to pause, breathe and choose yourself one letter at a time.
Keep reading to explore these practices, one letter at a time.
Anchor In: In a busy world it is easy to get swept up in the whirlwind of tasks, thoughts and responsibilities. That is why the practice of anchoring into the present is so important.
Anchoring in means taking a moment to ground yourself, to feel your feet on the Earth and to come fully into the moment. It is in these moments of stillness that we find clarity, peace and the strength to move forward with purpose.
Breathe Deeply: Breath is the bridge between your body and your mind.
Breathing is a tool you carry with you every moment of the day. When you breathe deeply, you create space in your mind and body for calm, focus and presence.
Deep breathing nourishes your nervous system and grounds you when life feels overwhelming. Inhale deeply, exhale fully, and remember that your breath is always there to support you.
Celebrate Yourself: We often move through life without pausing to celebrate the incredible progress we have made but we all deserve to be celebrated!
Take a moment each day to honour who you are, what you have overcome, and the steps you have taken toward growth. This doesn’t have to be grand—simple acknowledgments like “I’m proud of myself for getting through today” or “I did my best” can work wonders in cultivating self-love.
Dance: There is something deeply freeing about dancing. Dance is an expression of joy, movement and creativity. When you dance, you connect with your body in a way that words cannot. Let yourself move without judgment, without worrying about how you look. Whether you’re dancing in your living room, out in nature or at a party let the rhythm of life move through you and bring a sense of playfulness and freedom.
Explore Feelings: Your feelings are valid, all of them. Rather than avoiding or suppressing your emotions, lean into them. Exploring your feelings can help you understand your needs, desires and boundaries. The present emotion might be joy, sadness, anger or peace, and every emotion has something to teach you.
Allow yourself to feel without judgment as you will gain a deeper connection with yourself.
Freedom: Self-care means giving yourself permission to live freely. Free from the expectations of others, free from perfectionism and free from anything that holds you back from living authentically. When you prioritise freedom, you create space to explore, grow and step into the most authentic version of yourself.
Ground: Grounding is a practice of connecting to the energy of the Earth and through it, reconnecting with yourself. Whether you walk barefoot on grass, sit under a tree or simply breathe in the fresh air, grounding (earthing) restores your sense of stability and calm.
Each moment of grounding is a reminder that you are supported by something greater than yourself and that you are never alone.
Hydrate: Hydration is one of the simplest yet most powerful acts of self-care.
Water fuels your body, clears your mind and supports every system in your body. Sipping water throughout the day is a reminder to nurture yourself. Think of it as a gentle act of love that keeps your body vibrant and alive.
Inspire: Surround yourself with things and people that inspire you. Whether it’s a book, a piece of art, a conversation or time spent in nature, let inspiration fill you up. Inspiration lights the fire within, pushing you to create, dream and pursue all the things that make your soul sing.
Journal: Writing is a powerful way to connect with yourself.
Journaling allows you to reflect on your day, your thoughts, your feelings and your desires. It is a safe space to release anything that is on your mind and uncover deeper truths. You might be venting frustrations or dreaming about the future, journaling is a form of self-expression that clears mental clutter and helps you gain clarity.
Know Yourself: To practice self-care you must first know yourself.
Take the time to reflect on your values, passions, strengths and weaknesses. The more you understand who you are, the better you will be at meeting your own needs and standing firmly in your truth.
Laugh: Laughter truly is medicine.
It lifts your spirits, lowers stress and connects you to those around you. Through a funny video, a silly moment with friends or simply laughing at the unexpected twists and turns of life choose to embrace moments of joy and let laughter lighten your heart.
Meditate: Meditation is a practice of stillness and presence. By quieting the mind, you open yourself to inner peace, clarity and self-awareness. Even a few minutes of meditation a day can make a profound difference in how you approach life’s challenges.
Nourishment: Nourishment isn’t just about eating well—although that is certainly a part of it!
Nourishment is about feeding your body, mind, heart and soul with everything that helps you thrive. Surround yourself with positive people, engage in activities that bring you joy and fuel your body with foods that make you feel vibrant and energised.
Open Heart: An open heart is a gateway to love, compassion and connection.
When you open your heart, you allow yourself to give and receive love freely and unconditionally, without fear or judgment. Living with an open heart brings you closer to others and to yourself, deepening your relationships and enriching your life.
Play: Play is an essential part of self-care as it invites joy, creativity and curiosity into your life. Whether it’s through games, art, or simply being silly, play brings a lightness to your spirit and reminds you not to take life too seriously.
Quiet Time: In the hustle and bustle of daily life quiet time can feel like a luxury but it is essential.
Find moments of peace throughout your day to recharge and reflect through meditation, reading or simply sitting in silence. Quiet time invites introspection and allows you to reconnect with yourself and regain a sense of balance.
Rest and Restore: Rest is not a reward; it’s a necessity. Prioritise time to rest and restore your energy through sleep, naps or simply unplugging from the world for a while.
When you rest, you allow your body and mind to heal, making space for rejuvenation and creativity.
Shine Brightly: Never be afraid to shine! You are unique and the world needs and deserves your light. Self-care means stepping into your power and letting your brilliance shine unapologetically.
When you shine brightly, you inspire others to do the same.
Trust: Trust the journey, trust yourself and trust that everything is unfolding as it should. Life can be uncertain but when you cultivate trust you release the need to control every outcome and you allow space for growth, transformation and peace.
Unconditional Love: Loving yourself unconditionally means accepting yourself as you are—flaws, strengths and everything in between.
Practice self-compassion, forgive yourself when necessary and treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a dear friend.
Value Your Vibe and Tribe: Your energy is sacred. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, who see you and who value your unique vibe. Your tribe should be those who encourage your growth and inspire you to be the best version of yourself.
Willingness to Grow: Growth requires a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. Self-care is not always easy but it is in those moments of discomfort that we find the most profound transformations.
Be willing to grow, to learn and to evolve into the person you are meant to be.
Xtra Care: Sometimes, you need to go the extra mile for yourself. Whether it’s a day off, a special treat or simply allowing yourself to slow down, extra care is never indulgent—it is essential.
Be gentle with yourself and offer extra love when needed.
Yoga: Yoga is a beautiful way to connect with your body, mind and breath. It encourages flexibility, strength and inner peace. Whether you are practicing a gentle flow or a more vigorous style, yoga invites you to align with your inner self.
Zone Out and Zen In: Sometimes, zoning out is exactly what you need to find your centre. Whether it’s through meditation, a hobby or simply daydreaming, allow yourself to zone out from the noise of life and zen into your inner peace.
Self-care is not a one-time act—it is a lifelong journey. It is about showing up for yourself in ways that nourish, heal and empower you, again and again.
Each of the ABCs of self-care is a loving reminder that you are worthy of attention, tenderness and devotion every single day.
Through small, intentional practices, you build a foundation of well-being that supports your growth, creativity and joy.
Healing is intense alchemy.
It is courage and consistency.
It is truth-telling and radical acceptance.
It asks less fixing (because you are not broken) and more receiving.
Less perfectionism, and far more permission to be gloriously “good enough.”
We must 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚, 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 and 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 of ourselves first.
With time and practice, the reward is freedom:
Freedom from chaos.
Freedom from drama.
Freedom from the illusion that controlling the outside world will ever quiet the ache within.
As you move through the winding roads of life, remember to anchor in, breathe deeply, and celebrate yourself.
Let dance be your liberation, play your medicine and trust your inner compass.
I used to believe healing meant patching every flaw until I gleamed like new. Now I know it is softer and stronger than that.
Healing and growing is about accepting and understanding the layers of who we are and why we function as we do.
It’s about recognising what no longer serves us, and doing the soul work to shift old patterns.
I am still walking.
Sometimes sprinting.
Sometimes crawling.
Always moving.
I am beside you with every step through the jungle of life.
How have you taken care of yourself this week?

Let the ABCs of self-care weave into your body, your breath, your bones—until they become second nature because healing and learning to take care of yourself is an inside job.
You are worth every breath, every boundary, every beautiful beginning.
When you honour yourself in this way, you create a life that not only sustains you but allows you to shine brightly and inspire others to do the same.
After all, self-care is the foundation upon which everything else is built.
Embrace it fully and let your wild wellness journey unfold.
